A little history about the
Library:
The Piedmont Woman's Club established
the Piedmont Library. It became incorporated on August
23, 1960. At that time, the women went to the County
United Way to secure funds to help operate the library.
They were then eligible for funding from West Virginia
Library Commission (WVLC). We continue to be a CUW
agency of both Mineral County WV and Alleghany County MD
to this day. The library was operated out of one room on
Library Street. It outgrew the one room and was
relocated to 1 Childs Avenue. The Mt. Carbon Lodge owned
this building at the time. In March of 1996, the Mt.
Carbon Lodge merged with the Davis Lodge in Keyser. They
no longer needed the building, so they agreed to let us
purchase it. The building consists of three floors. The
library is housed on the first floor, measuring 1350
square feet. The second floor is used for storage. The
third floor contains the trophies and pictures from our
former high schools.

We are part of an area referred to
as, the tri-towns area, which includes Piedmont WV, Luke
MD, and Westernport MD. We may be a small community but
we are full of spirit and rich in history. The main
purpose of the library is to provide excellent, up to
date and free services to the many patrons of Allegany
and Mineral Counties. Our main objective is to keep
education and learning as a top priority in our
communities.
Piedmont Public Library has been on
the prestigious Star Library list every year since the
inception in 2009. We have received 5 stars numerous
times and average over 4 stars over the 11 years. We are proud of this
achievement. There was an article in the West Virginia
Library Commissions
Library Lookout that was published in the
January 2013 issue. The 2018 full article in the
Library Journal may also be read
HERE.
Stop by the library today to learn
more about all we have to offer or to see how you can
help keep the role of the library active and going
strong in our community. Your support as either a
patron, volunteer or contributor is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you.
